You go to my head And you linger like a haunting refrain And I find you spinning round in my brain Like the bubbles in a glass of champagne You go to my head Like a sip of sparkling burgundy brew And I find the very mention of you Like the kicker in a julep or two The thrill of the thought That you might give a thought to my plea, cast a spell over me Still I say to myself get a hold of yourself Can't you see that it never can be? You go to my head With a smile that makes my temperature rise Like a summer with a thousand July's You intoxicate my soul with your eyes Though I'm certain that this heart of mine Hasn't a ghost of a chance in this crazy romance You go to my head

Bliss 03:31
In the stream of our present bliss In this dream of a constant kiss Oh, you are the star showing me the way. It reaches far, way above the clouds of white For this golden green shining in your eyes. Feeling moved by your lovely face Being blessed, in a state of grace Makes me want to fly on a path unseen. It reaches high, way above the skies of blue Now I know I may say that I love you.

Lately, I’ve been dreaming in a world of blue and green. Your eyes hold a secret beckoning this reverie. Mem’ries of yesterdays uncovered, Lost as they wash away asunder. Lonely hearts and lonely hopes awaken in a sea of blue and green. -- Caught in the waves of life we stumble, Torn from paradise asunder. Lovers’ hearts and lovers’ hopes Before me in my memory.

Little bird, won’t you fly away? Can’t you see, it’s no time to play? I’m fine in my misery. Little bird, won’t you hear my plea? There’s a place where I long to be Where there’s hope for humanity Love and peace reside In this place, there’s nowhere to hide. From this pain in my heart Breaking oceans apart, far away. But I know in the end, we are still, we are sand We’re alone Wandering on our own. Little bird, won’t you fly away? Won’t you leave me in peace today? Oh, bird, please let me be. Little bird, won’t you set me free? There’s a place in my heart Breaking oceans apart, far away. But I know in the end, we are still, we are sand We’re alone Wandering on our own. Little bird, won’t you come to me? I could use some sweet company. Oh, bird, let’s fly in ecstasy. Little bird, won’t you set me free?

You want her, you need her, you say you’ll believe her when all the magic is gone. You find her, you keep her, you won’t ever leave her. Now, all your promises done. Too little space in this house to be hiding. No more tears, no more doubts, no more lying. Little space in this house to be fighting. When the bottle is out, the Provider’s gone. Well, things they change now, And you’ve rearranged now You’re gold in the light of the sun. You love her, you weep her, you wish you could see her, but your words and your deeds linger on. She’s moving down to the lake with her daughter. She’s still pretty; might find a new partner. When she meets him, she says without laughter: “When the bottle is out, the Provider’s gone!”

about

François Moutin & Kavita Shah Duo’s "Interplay" is an improvisational journey across lyric-driven and wordless pieces alike. Together, Moutin and Shah embrace virtuosity, spontaneity, and lyricism through a repertoire of jazz standards and original music adapted to the unique instrumentation of acoustic bass and voice. "Interplay" also includes the participation of two jazz legends: French pianist Martial Solal, 90, who has hired Moutin in his trio for the past three decades, and NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan, 89, a longtime mentor of Shah, whom she met, in serendipitous New York fashion, on the subway.

“This is one of the great underutilized instrumentations in jazz, and I’ve never heard it rendered quite like this.” - Giovanni Russonello, New York Times

"I started the concept of doing bass and voice in the early 1950s, so to be a guest on a wonderful singer and swinging bass player's recording some 60 years later is a fantastic feeling." - Sheila Jordan, Singer & NEA Jazz Master
